What a CMS is, in plain words
CMS stands for content management system. It is the back office of your website. You log in, you click on the part of the page you want to change, you type or swap a photo, and you save. You do not touch any code, and you do not need to know how websites work.
Think of it like editing a document, except the document is your website.
What you can change yourself
- Text on any page, like a paragraph, a heading or a price.
- Photos, including swapping a picture for a better one.
- Hours, including holiday closings.
- Menus and price lists.
- A banner or a short announcement.
- Team members and their photos.
What your first edit looks like
The first time is the one that feels new. After that it is routine.
- Log in to the editor with the details we send you.
- Open the page you want to change.
- Click the text or photo you want to change.
- Type the new words or choose the new photo.
- Save, then open the page on your phone to check it.
What is better to leave to us
Some things are easier and safer when we do them: changing the layout of a page, adding a new page, adding a feature such as booking, and the behind-the-scenes settings that affect how Google reads your site. If you are not sure whether something is a quick edit, ask us. We would rather you ask than guess.
Doing it yourself, or asking us
Both are fine, and many owners do some of each. A barber might swap the Saturday hours at the shop in two minutes and ask us to add a new stylist. A restaurant owner might change a price at the pass and send us the new weekly menu.
The changes you make yourself do not count toward the small changes we make for you each month. They are simply yours.
A few habits that help
Change one thing at a time, then look at it on your phone. Keep photos at a sensible size, since a huge file slows a page down. And if something looks off after an edit, tell us. Fixes are part of every plan, and we would rather fix it than have you stuck.
If you are not technical
You do not have to be. Plenty of owners who never touch a computer at work edit their own hours after a few tries. And if you would rather not, you never have to. Send the change to us as a message and we will make it. Nothing about the way the site is built forces you to do it yourself.
