Privacy policy

Toast is made by Zossoz, Inc. (“Zossoz,” “we,” “us”). Toast is built on a simple rule: your speech is yours, and we never see it.

The short version

• Toast has no account and no sign-up.
• We operate no servers and collect no personal data.
• Toast can ask for a few optional permissions — microphone and on-device speech recognition (to record and review your own rehearsal takes, a Toast Pro feature) and notifications (for optional rehearsal reminders). Still no camera, photos, or location, ever. Decline any of them and the rest of the app works exactly the same.
• If you don’t record a take, rehearsal is timed only, same as always.
• Recordings, transcripts, drafts, and takes all live only on your device.
• No ads, no analytics, no tracking, no data sales. Ever.

What Toast stores, and where

Your speeches, drafts, rehearsal take history, and — if you choose to record a take — the audio recording and its on-device transcript, are all stored locally on your device, in the app’s own storage. Nothing is ever sent to Zossoz — we have no servers to send it to. The only network activity Toast is involved in at all is Apple’s own purchase processing for the optional one-time unlock described below, which Apple handles, not us.

On-device intelligence

Optional writing tools — Polish, Tone, Tighten to Time, Story Interview, and Beat Check — run entirely on your device using Apple’s on-device models. Nothing you write is ever transmitted to Zossoz or any third party.

Recording and reviewing your rehearsal

With Toast Pro unlocked, Toast can record your rehearsal takes as audio. The first time you start a recorded rehearsal, iOS asks for microphone access; if you decline, or if Toast Pro isn’t unlocked, rehearsal continues exactly as it always has — timed but not recorded, with no permission prompt at all. When a take is recorded, Toast also asks for Speech Recognition access, used entirely on-device (never sent to Apple’s servers or ours) to transcribe the take so it can measure your actual speaking pace and flag any part of the draft you skipped. Recordings and transcripts are saved as files on your device and removed when you delete the take or the speech.

Reminders, widget, and Live Activity

Toast can send local notifications reminding you to rehearse before an event, at the days-before offsets you choose in Settings — Toast asks for notification permission only the first time a reminder would actually be scheduled, never at launch. The Toast home-screen widget and the Live Activity shown while you rehearse read a small on-device snapshot of your speeches (next event, days until, last take vs. target), shared between the app and the widget through an App Group container on your device. None of this ever leaves your device.

Siri, Shortcuts, and Spotlight

Toast supports Siri Shortcuts (starting a rehearsal, checking a toast’s estimated length) and Spotlight search, so your speeches can show up in iOS search results. Both work entirely on-device, using the same locally stored speech data described above — Apple’s on-device intents and indexing systems, not any Zossoz or Apple server.

Purchases

Toast is free, with one optional one-time purchase — “Toast Pro” — that unlocks recorded rehearsal takes, the on-device writing tools, and two extra cue-card styles. Purchases and restores are handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit; Zossoz never sees your payment information. Use “Restore Purchases” in Settings if you reinstall Toast or move to a new device. Toast Pro supports Family Sharing, so one purchase can cover your whole Family Sharing group.

Sharing your speech

A draft or cue-card PDF leaves the app only when you explicitly export or share it. Toast never shares anything on its own.

What we don’t do

• No analytics or tracking SDKs of any kind.
• No advertising, and no data sales — we have nothing to sell.
• No collection of names, emails, contacts, or identifiers.

Children

Toast is not directed at children under 13 and, consistent with the rest of this policy, collects no personal information from anyone.

Deleting your data

Delete individual items in the app at any time. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data.

Changes to this policy

If Toast’s behavior ever changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this policy and note the new effective date above before the change ships.
