Do I need a website if I have Instagram or a Google profile?

Usually yes, because each one does a different job. Instagram shows your work, your Google profile gets you found, and your website is the one page you control, with the full details a customer needs before choosing you.

What each one does best

Instagram is where people see what you make and what is new this week. It is good for the feel of a place: the food, the finished haircut, the truck pulling up to a job. Your Google profile is where people find you when they search, with your hours, your reviews and a map. It is good for being found nearby.

A website is where the full story lives, in a layout nobody else controls. It is the place to put everything that does not change daily and does not fit in a post.

What a website holds that the others do not

  • The full menu or price list, written out and easy to read.
  • Every service you offer, with a page of its own.
  • The area you cover, how it works and what to expect.
  • A form for a quote, a booking request or a question.
  • Your story, your team and what makes you different.
  • Answers to the questions people ask before they get in touch.

What customers do before they choose you

Most people do a little homework. They look at your photos, read a few reviews, check your hours, look for prices and try to work out how to book or ask a question. Your profile and your Instagram answer some of that. A website is the place where the rest is answered in one go, so the customer does not have to dig through old posts to find out whether you do what they need.

What you do not control on someone else's platform

On a social app, the layout, the rules and who sees what are decided by the app, and they change. A post slips down the feed within days. On your own site, your page looks the way you built it, and it stays there. That is a quiet advantage: a customer who finds you can always land somewhere that is clearly yours.

Many people also take a business more seriously when it has its own address. It says someone is in it for the long run.

How it looks for different businesses

A restaurant might have great food photos on Instagram, but a customer who wants tonight's menu, parking and catering details needs a page for that. A barbershop shows its work on Instagram, but the prices, hours and a Book button belong on a site. A contractor may get most work by word of mouth, but the person who was told about you will look you up, and what they find decides whether they call. A shop shows new arrivals on Instagram, and keeps what it carries, its hours and its services on the site.

If you can only do one thing first

Be honest about priorities. If you have no Google profile, claim and fill in that first, because it is free and it is where local searches land. Then get a simple site that says clearly who you are, what you do and how to reach you. Link them all to each other, and keep the details the same everywhere.

Our part

What Zossoz does about it

We build the website and, at launch, link it from your Google profile so people who find you there can tap through to a real site. We do not run your Instagram or your Google profile for you, so those stay in your hands.

The free homepage mock-up shows what your site could look like, so you can decide with a picture in front of you.

See your homepage first.

Send your business name and Google Maps link. We put together a homepage for you, free, with nothing to sign.
