Mile Marker

Privacy policy

Effective September 12, 2026

Mile Marker is made by Zossoz, Inc. (“Zossoz,” “we,” “us”). Mile Marker is built on a simple rule: your trip is yours, and we never see it.

The short version

  • Mile Marker has no account and no sign-up.
  • We operate no servers and collect no personal data.
  • Your trips, entries, and photos live only on your device.
  • Location is used only when you tap “use current location” — the app works fully without it.
  • Looking up an address or drawing your route map sends a request to Apple’s map servers — never to Zossoz.
  • No ads, no analytics, no tracking, no data sales. Ever.

What Mile Marker stores, and where

Your trips, timeline entries, and photos are stored locally on your device, in the app’s own storage. Nothing is ever sent to Zossoz — we have no servers of our own, and nothing about your trips is sent to us.

Location

Mile Marker asks for location access the first time you tap “use current location” while logging an entry, and takes a single one-time reading — it does not track your location in the background, ever. If you decline, or never tap that button, the entry composer simply leaves the place field for you to type by hand; every feature of the app works fully without granting location access.

Addresses and map data (Apple, not Zossoz)

When you use “use current location,” or type a place name for an entry, Mile Marker asks Apple’s map servers to convert that into a readable place name or a set of coordinates. When you build a trip’s Zine keepsake, Mile Marker also asks Apple’s map servers to render a small route-map image for the route page. Both of these go to Apple as the normal way Maps/geocoding works on iOS — we have no server of our own, and nothing about you or your trip is sent to Zossoz.

Photo library and camera

You can attach a photo to a timeline entry or a trip cover from your photo library, or take one with the camera. Mile Marker only reads the photo you choose or capture, and if that photo has location data attached, Mile Marker may use it to fill in the entry’s place — the same “don’t overwrite a stronger location” rule applies as with manual pins.

On-device intelligence

Optional features — polishing an entry, drafting a day’s zine intro — run entirely on your device using Apple’s on-device models. Nothing about your trip is ever transmitted to Zossoz or any third party.

Widget and Live Activity

If you add the Mile Marker widget to your Home Screen, or start a Live Activity for a trip, a small snapshot — trip name, day number, miles, last stop — is shared with it through a private App Group container that stays entirely on your device. It is never sent anywhere else.

Siri and Shortcuts

Mile Marker offers a couple of App Intents (“Log an Entry,” “Stamp the Moment”) for use with Siri and the Shortcuts app. These run on-device, reading and writing your trips the same way the app itself does — nothing about them is sent to Zossoz.

Exporting and importing a trip file

You can export a trip as a .milemarker file (containing that trip’s entries and photos) to share or back up however you like — AirDrop, Files, email, or anywhere else you choose — and import one back in. This is entirely under your control; Zossoz has no part in it and never sees the file.

Purchases

The Zine keepsake export is unlocked with a one-time in-app purchase. The purchase itself is handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit — Zossoz never sees your payment details. You can restore a previous purchase with the “Restore Purchases” button in Settings, and the unlock supports Family Sharing.

What we don’t do

  • No analytics or tracking SDKs of any kind.
  • No advertising, and no data sales — we have nothing to sell.
  • No collection of names, emails, contacts, or identifiers.

Children

Mile Marker is not directed at children under 13 and, consistent with the rest of this policy, collects no personal information from anyone.

Deleting your data

Delete individual items in the app at any time. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data.

Changes to this policy

If Mile Marker’s behavior ever changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this policy and note the new effective date above before the change ships.
