Privacy policy

Exif Remover: Clean Metadata (“Exif Remover”) is made by Zossoz, Inc. (“Zossoz,” “we,” “us”). It exists to take identifying and AI-provenance metadata out of your photos and videos, so it would be absurd for it to collect any of yours. It doesn’t. Nothing you clean ever leaves your device.

The short version

• Exif Remover has no account and no sign-up.
• We operate no servers and collect no personal data.
• The app makes no network connections. Scanning and cleaning happen entirely on your device.
• It reads metadata (including GPS location, camera serial numbers, timestamps, and C2PA content credentials) only to show it to you and remove it. It never stores or transmits what it finds.
• No ads, no analytics, no tracking, no data sales. Ever.

What Exif Remover can access, and why

Photos and videos you choose. When you pick items with the system photo picker or the Files browser, the app receives only those items. Cleaned copies are written to a temporary folder inside the app’s own sandbox and deleted when you clear the queue or relaunch the app.

Saving to Photos. By default the app asks for add-only access to your photo library, which lets it save cleaned copies and nothing else. It cannot see, read, or modify your existing library with this permission.

Replace original in Photos (optional). If you turn on this setting, the app asks for read-and-write library access so it can delete the original after saving the cleaned copy. This is off by default, explained before you enable it, and can be turned off at any time in Settings or in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos.

The Photos editing extension and the share extension. “Clean Metadata” inside the Photos app and “Clean & Send” in the share sheet run the same on-device code. Each receives only the item you hand it and returns the cleaned result to the app you were using. Neither one talks to Zossoz or anyone else.

Shortcuts. The “Remove Metadata from Images” action processes the files a shortcut passes to it and returns cleaned files to that shortcut. It runs on your device.

What the app stores

Your cleaning preferences (orientation handling, HEIC conversion, JPEG quality, and the replace-original setting) and whether you have purchased the Pro unlock. These are kept in an app group shared only between the app and its two extensions, so they follow the same rules everywhere. Nothing about the content of your photos or videos is stored.

Purchases

Exif Remover Pro is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple’s App Store. Apple processes the payment and shares no payment details with us. Restore Purchases in Settings asks Apple to confirm what you own. The unlock supports Family Sharing.

Content credentials (C2PA)

When a file carries signed content credentials, the app decodes the manifest locally to show you who signed it and what edits it declares. It does not contact any credential registry or verification service, and it does not keep the manifest after you clean the file.

No tracking, no analytics, no diagnostics

The app contains no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting code, and no third-party SDKs of any kind. If you have Share With App Developers enabled in iOS, Apple may show us aggregated, anonymous crash reports through Apple’s own tools; that is the only data we could ever see, and it contains nothing from your photos.

Children

Exif Remover is not directed at children under 13 and, because it collects nothing, cannot collect personal information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this page and the effective date above, and the App Store listing will say so.
