Darts Checkout Chart and Calculator (170 to 2)
A checkout is the dart that takes you to exactly zero, and in a standard game it has to be a double or the bullseye. Below you will find a calculator for the score you have left, then the preferred route for every finish from 170 down to 2.

The chart
Checkouts from 170 to 2
Each route lists the darts in the order you throw them. T is a treble, D is a double, a plain number is a single, and Bull is the inner bull worth 50. Where several routes exist, the chart uses the one that starts with the big trebles and ends on a double you are likely to hit.

Good to know
Bogey numbers and leaving a good double
The scores 169, 168, 166, 165, 163, 162 and 159 cannot be finished in three darts. Players call them bogey numbers. If you are on one, take a treble that leaves a number with a route, such as T20 from 169.
Leave a double you like
When a visit cannot finish, think about what you leave. With 41 on the board, a single 9 leaves 32 (D16), which is far friendlier than leaving 41 and needing two darts. D16, D8, D4 and D20 are favourites because a near miss often helps: miss D16 into the single and you are left on 16, which is D8.
One-dart and two-dart finishes
Every even number up to 40, plus 50, is a one-dart finish. The highest two-dart finish is 110 (T20 and Bull). Anything above 110 needs all three darts. See the 501 rules for how double out works and the scoring guide for tracking what is left.
Questions
Quick answers
- What is the highest checkout in darts?
- 170, thrown as treble 20, treble 20 and bullseye. It is the only way to finish from 170 in three darts, and nothing higher can be checked out in a single visit.
- Which scores can't be checked out in three darts?
- 169, 168, 166, 165, 163, 162 and 159 have no three-dart finish. Anything above 170 is also out of reach in one visit, and 1 can never be finished.
- Why does the bullseye count as a double?
- The inner bull scores 50 and counts as double 25, so it is a legal finishing dart in a double-out game. The outer bull (25) is a single and cannot finish a leg.
- Are these routes the only way to finish?
- No. Most scores have several finishes. The chart shows the route most players treat as the standard one, starting with treble 20 or treble 19 and ending on a favourite double such as D20, D16 or D8. If you are stronger on another number, use it. The calculator lists alternatives.
- What should I do when I'm on a score with no checkout?
- Use the visit to leave a number you can finish next time. From 169, for example, most players throw a treble 20 and see what is left, since 109 can be finished with three darts.
