Sudoku Extreme: play every way, from classic to Killer and beyond

What it does

Fourteen kinds of puzzle, one app

The classic grid is the heart of it, and around it sit the puzzles people go looking for next.

Sudoku in every size and shape

Classic 9×9, Mini 4×4 and 6×6, Giant 16×16, Jigsaw regions, Diagonal, and Samurai with five overlapping grids.

Sudoku with a twist

Killer cages, Thermo, Arrow, Sandwich, Even/Odd and Kropki dots. Each comes with its own rules explained on the board, so you can start any of them cold.

Number puzzles from the same family

Kakuro and Calcudoku, with arithmetic cages on grids from 4×4 up to 9×9.

What it does

Rivals who race you

Twelve characters

Each has a rating and a way of playing, from the fast and sloppy to the slow and steady to the technique specialist.

Duel on the same puzzle

Pick a rival and solve the same grid side by side. You watch their progress bar move and race to the finish.

A rating of your own

Solve and duel to build a puzzle rating that follows you from level to level.

A Killer Sudoku puzzle with cage sumsThe Sudoku World Tour, venue by venue

Six levels, graded by what it takes to solve

Gentle, Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert and Extreme. A level is set by the hardest technique you will need, from a simple hidden single up to chains and forcing moves, so Hard always feels like Hard and never just a grid with fewer numbers. Every puzzle has exactly one answer you can reach by reasoning.

The World Tour

A campaign across eight venues, from a sunny Morning Café and a Zen Garden to a Night Train, a Lighthouse Coast, a Desert Observatory, a Neon Arcade and an Aurora Cabin. Each venue has its own look and its own kind of puzzle, about seventy-five stages in all, and a boss waiting at the end. Earn up to three stars by solving it, beating the clock and finishing without hints.

Learn it properly

Lessons teach one technique at a time, then quiz you on real positions: find the hidden single, say what this X-Wing rules out. Paths run from the basics through locked candidates, subsets, fish and wings, to chains, and each variant has its own short path. Unit checkpoints and test-outs let you skip what you know. There are no streaks, no hearts and no pressure.

A coach that shows you why

Stuck? Ask for a hint and get it in steps: the name of the technique, then where to look, then the pattern highlighted, then the explanation, and finally the move itself if you want it. Check your work only when you choose to. After a solve, the review shows the steps you took, where you got stuck and where you guessed, with a card to share.

A new puzzle every day

One classic puzzle a day plus a weekly variant, the same for everyone, with Game Center leaderboards and a Home Screen widget.

With friends: Puzzle Night and Game Center

Puzzle Night puts everyone on the same puzzle, each on their own phone, while an iPad or TV shows the live race and who finishes first. It needs no accounts and no internet. Game Center adds live races, leaderboards and achievements.

Made for the way you play

Corner and centre pencil marks, auto-candidates, cell-first or digit-first entry, highlights for matching digits, unlimited undo and redo, a pausable timer and autosave. The grid works fully with VoiceOver, supports Dynamic Type and uses colour-blind-safe highlights.

On-device intelligence

On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, rivals trade banter and you can describe a rival and have the app build them. It runs on your device, it is optional, and Sudoku Extreme plays the same without it.

Free to start, no ads

Classic, Mini, Jigsaw, Diagonal and Killer are free at every level up to Hard, with endless puzzles, the first two venues, four rivals, the first chapter of the World Tour, the basics lessons, the daily puzzle, online play and joining a Puzzle Night. The Full Game is a one-time purchase that opens the Expert and Extreme levels, every variant and lesson, the rest of the World Tour, hosting Puzzle Night, the rival creator and full solve review. Venue packs and rival packs add more, and everything works with Family Sharing. No subscriptions, no ads, no tracking. Hints are always free.
