- How do I encode or decode something?
- Choose a cipher from the list, type or paste your text, and enter the key if the cipher needs one. Each cipher has a short history so you can learn how it works.
- How do I crack a message when I do not know the cipher?
- Use the codebreaking tools. CipherKit can guess the likely cipher type, run frequency analysis, try every possibility it can, and score each result for how much it looks like English.
- Can I scan a code from a photo?
- Yes. Capture text with the camera, from a photo or from a screenshot, and send it straight to the workbench. Camera and photo access are used only for this, and only when you ask.
- How do the daily challenge and streak work?
- Open the daily challenge once a day to keep your streak going. There is a widget for your streak and an Apple Watch app for the daily challenge.
- How safe are the notes in my vault?
- Vault notes are encrypted with AES-256-GCM, and opening them needs Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. The key is created on your device and never leaves it. Because there is no account, we hold no copy and cannot recover vault notes. Pro includes encrypted vault backups.
- What is free and what is CipherKit Pro?
- The ciphers, the solver, the daily challenge and the vault are free to use, and you get three free tries of the visualizers and chain recipes. CipherKit Pro is a one-time purchase with no subscription. It adds the Expert, Diablo and Machine Room packs, the modern crypto ciphers, unlimited visualizers and chain recipes, and vault backup.
- I paid for CipherKit before it was free. What now?
- If you paid for the app earlier, Pro is already unlocked for you. If you picked it up during a free week, your Expert and Diablo puzzle packs stay open. If something looks locked, open the Pro screen from Settings and tap Restore Purchases.
- What does Apple Intelligence do in CipherKit?
- On supported iPhones it can explain what a cipher is doing, write a graded hint when you are stuck, and generate a new puzzle on a theme. You can switch it off in Settings, and every one of those features has a written alternative that works without it.
