Loose Ends turns screenshots and photos into to-dos, reminders and calendar events. This page explains what the app does with your information. The short version: Zossoz doesn’t collect any of it.
What Zossoz collects
Nothing. The app has no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. Zossoz never receives your screenshots, the text in them, your results, your lists, or anything about how you use the app.
How your screenshots are scanned
Reading the text and finding the to-dos all happen on your device, using Apple’s Vision and on-device Foundation Models frameworks. Your images and the text in them are never uploaded to Zossoz or to any server Zossoz runs.
What is stored on your device
Your results, history, lists and settings are saved inside the app on your device. You can clear your history or reset all app data any time in Settings, and deleting the app removes its data from your device.
iCloud sync (optional)
If you’re signed in to iCloud, the app can sync your results, history, lists and settings between your devices through the private database in your own iCloud account (Apple CloudKit). That data lives in your iCloud account and is protected by Apple. Zossoz can’t read it, and it never passes through a server we run. Apple’s privacy policy covers how iCloud stores it.
A few settings stay on the device where you set them and never sync: scanning new screenshots automatically, deleting screenshots after scanning, and the values of any webhook headers (see Optional webhooks). The webhook address and your other settings sync through your iCloud account if sync is on.
Sync is optional. It’s on by default, and you can turn off “Sync with iCloud” in Settings. The change takes effect the next time you open the app, and your data then stays on that device. If you aren’t signed in to iCloud, the app works the same way and keeps everything on your device. Data that already synced stays in your iCloud account until you remove it in iOS Settings, under your Apple Account, iCloud, Manage Storage.
Permissions the app asks for
- Reminders: used only to add the to-dos you choose to your Reminders.
- Calendar: used only to add the events you choose to your calendar. The app asks for write-only access and does not read your existing events.
- Photos: used only to find and read your screenshots: to scan ones you pick, to run the Screenshot Inbox and “Scan Latest Screenshot,” and, if you turn on the optional setting, to notice new screenshots and scan them automatically. See “Screenshots and Photos” below.
- Notifications: used only for local notifications on your device, for example to tell you what “Scan Latest Screenshot” found. They’re created on your device, and no Zossoz push service is involved.
- Camera: used only when you choose to scan a document or a photo with the camera.
You can change or turn off any of these in the iOS Settings app.
Screenshots and Photos
- Screenshot Inbox: lets you go through your recent screenshots one by one. It reads them from your photo library on your device. The date you last sorted is remembered on this device only.
- Scan Latest Screenshot: something you can run from the Action Button, Back Tap, Control Center, Siri or Shortcuts. It reads your newest screenshot on your device and shows what it found in a local notification.
- Optional deletion: if you turn on “Delete Screenshot After Scanning,” the app asks iOS to delete a screenshot once its scan is saved. iOS shows its own confirmation and moves the screenshot to Recently Deleted, so nothing is deleted without your approval. The setting is off by default and applies to this device only.
Live Activities and Spotlight
If you choose to track a package or a flight found in a screenshot, the app shows a Live Activity on your Lock Screen. It’s created on your device, and the app contacts no server to do it. The app also adds titles, summaries and list names to Spotlight and Siri on your device so you can find past results. The full text of your screenshots isn’t indexed. This index stays on your device and is removed when you reset app data.
Purchases
Loose Ends is free to use with a weekly allowance of free scans, and a one-time purchase removes that limit. You buy it through Apple’s App Store. Apple handles the payment and gives Zossoz no personal data, so Zossoz never learns who purchased.
Optional webhooks
If you set up a webhook, the app sends your scan results to the address you enter, such as Zapier, Make, n8n or your own server. You choose and control that address, and Zossoz never receives the data. The service you send it to has its own privacy policy.
Webhook headers can contain API tokens, so they’re kept in this device’s Keychain and never sync. The webhook address and your other settings sync through your iCloud account if sync is on.
Task manager export
If you send a to-do to a task manager such as Things, OmniFocus or Todoist, the app hands it to that app on your device. From then on, that app’s privacy policy applies.
Children
Zossoz doesn’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
